Techneek of the Week - Two Flowers Four Ways

So I am starting a new installment, showcasing how to stretch that scrapbooking budget!! With the economy in a downturn, it's always good to find ways to make your dollar last a bit more. But with all the new scrapbooking supplies hitting town, sometimes it can be hard to stick to a budget. So I am going to show you how you can take one package of rad new Prima flowers and make four unique projects out of it...and this is just the beginning! I'm sure there are a lot more ways to use these rad new flowers! Which just hit the store today!! WOOHOO!!

First things first, this style of flower comes in a whole bunch of neat-o colours and styles. The blue pack I picked also comes in green and red and pink and more blues and yellow and orange. And there are also some with a pattern fabric in them, some with white edging and some fancier ones with different colours mixed in! I am LOVING THEM!!!! So pick the one that best fits your style and try out these Techneeks here!

Since there are a couple of different Techneeks I want to share with the same product, I am going to split this post up. Tonight I will focus on one Techneek, and I hope to have the rest of them for you by the end of the Holiday Weekend!

For this Techneek you will need:

  • One package of new Prima flowers

  • Two pattern paper that match the colour of the flowers you chose

  • A large brad (I used a black American Crafts one...try using a button for a different look!)

  • A pencil (to trace your paper petals)

Step One: Take apart one of the flowers from the package. You can save the second flower for another Techneek.

Step Two: Trace one of the "petals" from the Prima flower onto one of your pattern paper choices. Make sure you trace using one of the petals that will NOT be in your final flower. You just want the size right so it will fit in between the remaining petals. Remember, that you will have (at least) three petals left to use on another project. I traced the second largest and the third smallest for this flower. Cut the new petals out of the pattern paper.

Step Three: Crumple your new petals and then flatten them out...this way they look like they belong with the fabric petals.

Step Four: Poke holes using a paper piercer, scissors, or whatever you have on hand, in the centre of your new paper petals so you can easily thread your large brad through them...the fabric petals already have holes as they come with a brad in them. I didn't use that brad in this project.

Step Five: Thread the flower pieces back on to the brad in the right order, including your new petals.

Step Six: The finished product!!

And here is a layout featuring the rad new flower we made!! Remember, you still have 1.5 flowers left from the package...so check back tomorrow to see what I did with the other half!

Happy Thanksgiving!
